Hello there!

My deep dive into learning about health and wellness started for my daddy.

He was a retired teacher who spiralled into the dark years of battling with Parkinson’s condition for close to 10 years. As his daughter, I fought him and the disease every day. Fought it in heartache, in denial, in desperation to hold on to a sliver of who he really is; and not what is left of him having been eroded by a slow disease like this.  His living years and ultimately his passing, were daily choices I had to make to help him live with dignity.

Yet in this very season - almost 10 years after journeying with Dad, I have also found myself in a vulnerable place nothing would have prepared me for.

Depression and anxiety - are the last things I would imagine become part of my personal life.  I never knew or understood the depths of these mind and heart shattering struggles until now - as I walk each day with these uncomfortable fumbly shoes. Oh there are tears. So much. There are tripping and fall-flat-on-your-face days. There are numbing counting-minutes-kind-of-days; and then there are small triumphs, genuine breakthroughs and seconds of joy.

Daddy and my journey sang one same chorus - how do we fight each day to live with dignity?
To not feel ashamed. To cling to every hope even when the knuckles go white.
How do we find health in places most people do not talk about?
How do we find an uncommon courage to speak into these real issues and shake off discouraging inner voices that very often close doors to hope?

Today I realise what life was like for dad. Every. Single. Day.
I am choosing to use our stories to bring you even a ray of hope.
I am unashamedly standing up, battle-scarred but choosing to push against this darkness.

May our human-ness, our call to courage give each other hope to love, to live and to never ever feel ashamed.
